Chicago Cubs Watch — May 9, 2008
May 9, 2008The Chicago Cubs remain in second place in the National League Central Division after their day off on Thursday. The Cubs are 2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals with a 19-15 record. And it’s still 100 years since the Cubs last won a World Series.
The Cubs are up for a three-game series today, Saturday and Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The two teams last met during the 2007 playoffs, which the D’Backs swept in three games. Chicago pitcher Carlos Zambrano is looking forward to meeting D’Back pitcher Randy Johnson on Sunday. Johnson is 12-0 against the Cubs, with an ERA of 1.0, over the course of his career with the Montreal Expos, the Houston Astros and the Diamondbacks. “Sweet,” was the Big Z’s reaction.
The Diamondbacks are in first place in the National League West Division, 3.5 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers. Their 23-12 record is the best in baseball.
