Keep an Eye on Cook
May 5, 2008Colorado Rockies‘ pitcher Aaron Cook is a man to keep an eye on. Cook led the Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday to end a four-game losing streak. Cook has a habit of ending losing streaks. He has done it five times so far this season and has practiced the art in each of his last three starts. The Rockies have a record of 6-18 for all other starting pitchers, but a record of 6-1 when Cook starts. Cook’s season record is 5-1. The Dodgers, for their part, ended an eight-game winning streak.
Cook has played for the Rockies for his entire career, which began in 2002. He won the Tony Conigliaro Award in 2005 for coming back from serious illness. In 2004, he was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, or blood clots, in his shoulder. He had surgery to remove a rib that was pressing against a vein and returned to baseball in 2005.
